Yutao Li is a condensed matter physicist at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and the leader of the AutoLab project. Yutao has been working with Two-Dimensional (2D) materials, such as graphene, for 8 years and has extensive experience in investigating their exotic electronic, mechanical and optical properties. He has first-authored scientific papers in prestigious journals including Nature Nanotechnology and Science Advances.

Yutao is the first person in BNL’s history to be funded by the Energy I-Corps program.

Previously, he was the Founder and CEO of Symation, an automation systems integrator specializing in advanced motion and vision automation systems. Since founding Symation in 2014, he built a customer base of over 100 clients and spearheaded projects involving motion control, image processing, and machine learning for semiconductor, alternative energy and agriculture industries.

Prior to Symation, Lenson held key leadership roles at Moog and Berkeley Process Control, where he managed large scale engineering projects and directed Program Management, IT, Marketing and Applications Engineering functions. His expertise spans automated inspection systems, industrial controls, and large-scale engineering solutions, including automation for offshore oil pipelines and nuclear reactor inspections.

Lenson holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from Duke University. He holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Passionate about mentorship and education, he has been a guest lecturer at UC Berkeley's Mechanical Engineering program.
